Around the late 80's, a group of parents felt the need for an early intervention program in Moncton. After all, research was showing how important intervention was for children at a young age, and there were, at that time, many intervention programs elsewhere in the province, but not in Moncton. These parents decided to pull their socks up and, with the help of the Greater Moncton Association for Community Living Inc., they performed the necessary research to create Early Childhood Stimulation Inc. Together, they put forth a proposition to the Department of Health and Community Services, now the Department of Social Development.

This is how Early Childhood Stimulation Inc. came to life in October 1990, serving Moncton and the surrounding areas. A board of directors was nominated with volunteers chosen among community members and parents. The program is still governed by volunteers.

In 1992, the provincial government instigated the “Early Childhood Initiatives”. Early Childhood Stimulation Inc. thus became one of the early intervention programs under the Early Childhood Initiatives. Screening and eligibility for our services are now assessed by Public Health. Since then, the number of children served each month has gone from 39 to 215. Our team has gone from 4 to 14 employees.
